Mamalois

Founder, Chief "I'm hungry, what should we eat" Officer

Singaporean by birth and pork dumplings by diet, I've lived in Australia, the US, & Singapore. I was always a terrible student and after years of skipping classes and feeling unmotivated, I decided to change things. So after I graduated with my Law diploma, I ran away to Florida to pursue a degree in Comms and later a Masters in Comms, Culture, & Technology.

I started working as a Communications Analyst with The World Bank in Washington D.C., but after a decade in the U.S. and an increasing amount of Asian hate violence, I decided to move back to Singapore to become a Senior Manager with the Singapore Prime Minister's Office (Strat Group). But clearly there were greater pulls than the throes of bureaucracy and I moved back to the international development world at The World Bank! Now I juggle between ending poverty around the world and dedicating my life to everything food related!

Our Origins Story

  • Liyana (Creative Director at large)

Born in Singapore and initially trained in law, I've since found myself in unexpected places—from building solutions for agritech startups to navigating the wild west of crypto. But somewhere between all the framework enhancements, strategy decks, and roadmaps; an impromptu night in Jakarta sparked something different: I picked up a paintbrush and haven't really put it down since. These days, my art is a counterpoint to the analytical work of my day jobs. When Lois suggested turning them into wearable pieces for this collection, it felt like kismet - a chance to transform abstract ideas into something tangible. While I spend my days thinking about how to build better systems and solve interesting problems, there's something particularly satisfying about creating art that exists simply because it should. This collection is exactly that: thoughtfully crafted, but with room for the unexpected.

  • Tim and my birth givers (the real mamalois & papa)

Coerced into helping me on my quest to bring food related clothes to life, my family have been an immense source of encouragement and strength.

Tim, with his business advice and acumen, and his consistency in feeding me food during my busy days. I have learnt so much and made important decisions by first bouncing it off of Tim!

My mama, for always speaking her truth even when I don't want to hear it.

My papa, for his curiosity in always wanting to learn more about what I'm up to. Also his willingness to help me with my logistics and delivering all MAMALOIS IS 35 packages to customers.

  • Ya Ting (Photo genius!)

Kee Ya Ting is the pocket rocket powering The Kyt Studio who often zips around on her trusty Lambretta scooter or cooks up weird ideas with other creative collaborators. An artist, photographer and video producer, Kee revels in projects where she can mesh her formal art sensibilities with an edgy commercial perspective.

Her photographic works have been shown in the Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF), the Dali International Photography Festival and the M1 Fringe Festival. Her most recent solo exhibition in 2022, Monday Mornings, I Whispered, explored scenes of Singapore’s wilderness through encaustic photographs.
